Why use a dehumidifier? : 4 problems it can help you solve

So far in May we haven’t had to deal with too much humidity, but I think most of us know this is the cool spring right before the hot summer. In my family, our house struggles day in and day out with humidity levels depending on the particular area of the house. Our upstairs turns into sauna, while the other floors remain relatively pleasant. My bedroom in particular has only one window and is probably the hottest room in the house!

But rather than mess with the thermostat and create temperature chaos in the rest of my home, I’ve decided to go with a much easier solution. I’m going to get out my ol’ dehumidifier.

Have you ever used a dehumidifier? If not…

Here are a few problems that a dehumidifier can help  you solve:

  1. Work to decrease your home’s amount of mold or mildew. Mold and mildew are present in the home when there are areas of high moisture. They can create musty odors and eventually home damage.
  2. Help get rid of dust mites! They can lives in your clothes, your bedding, your carpet or the air in your home. High humidity is a magnet for these creatures, so removing the excess air moisture works to get rid of them.
  3. Protect your possessions. Your personal effects will be safeguarded against the actions of high moisture. They will remain in a better state for much longer and will not develop that unpleasant musty smell or worse, mold.
  4. Improve the air quality for your family. If you have a family member with allergies, asthma or other breathing problems, you can use a dehumidifier to help decrease the moisture in the air. This will take out the airborne moisture to allow for easier breathing.

And of course, my reason is to help make my sleeping area a little more tolerable- WITHOUT disturbing the rest of my household.
